The reaction to City of Troy's hard fought victory in Saturdays Eclipse is IMO a bit too negative. Clearly he did not relish the ground conditions. Sandown is a horrible track when it gets soft. For me it was a good win and another display which confirms that not only does he have class in abundance, he has guts too. Strictly on the ratings it was a bit below the Derby form but there were plenty of mitigating circumstances. The race still favours the 4 yo's as far as the weight for age scale applies. It is only in August that the 3yo's are given a better chance and they generally show their correct form from then until the end of the season. I would rate it on a par with Los Angeles in the Irish Derby but you can bet that on a better surface he would be some distance superior.
