This is a from a scan of an article by James Bell Robertson, MRCVS ("Mankato") in The Lonsdale Library, Vol XXVII: Flat Racing (1940?), Chapter Two: The Principles of Heredity Applied To The Racehorse, pages 98 to 103. I do not know if copyright still applies to the book/article. The book is undated. .............................. The author took good runners and looked up their race records, earnings and those of their full sibling brothers. Pages 103, 104 analyse full-sibling sisters. ......................... There are 94 groups of brothers, 269 horses. I did my own summary of the groups - 94 top horses; 33 good runners; 31 fair runners; 106 useless/did not run. In 13 of the 94 groups 2 or more brothers were top class (13.8%). In 13 other groups there was one top class and one or more good horses (another 13.8%). I notice Group 6 has 3 top horses out of 4, and Group 36 has 5 bad horses out of 7. Why? I took a look and saw Group 6 had two full siblings in the 3rd generation producing a daughter and son. Group 36 has what I consider bad breeding: two sons of a duplicated sire close up, and a son of that sire's sire, plus another two sons of a second duplicated sire. I might go back and look at all the groups in detail later. It may be that some full-siblings have a higher probability of (two, more, all) being top class based on the pedigree, while in other groups one was top class due to lucky inheritance and his sull-siblings inherited low ability as expected. ................................
