On another thread a poster suggested we analyse a yearling sale. I did that a few years ago and the results were not pretty. .................... Over the last few weeks I started analysing a bigger yearling sale (over 2,000 lots, with more than 200 withdrawn or "not found"). It took a while to find the names given the yearlings. Now it is the long slog looking up their racing records and earnings. I must have got off to a bad start. The first five lots had two non-runners, and the other three had one place between them in 13 starts. Embarassed
Cost of these five yearling stars was 505,000 (one bought back for a six figure sum), and the race "earnings" of the five lots combined is well short of 10k.
