In a letter to the TDN he is pointing out the cost of producing a yearling and the subsequent profit/loss. He suggests that £20k is the cost of producing a yearling (at least that's how I read it). Is that right? If so I wouldn't be using a stallion for less than 40/50k and mares that are not 90+. If that's the cost that the big/medium studs are enduring they need to be very, very good to survive.
