It was a hard Derby to judge on quality wasn't it? The disasterous performance from DAWN APPROACH, the sluggish slow early pace and the small field makes it a difficult race to evaluate. Then there was the ground - great coverage of grass but soft to good so let's forget the time when comparing Derby statistics. What does that leave us with? RULER OF THE WORLD, a good horse or a great one? He's a good horse for sure and to win the Epsom Derby unbeaten is very credible but in my opinion I cannot call him a great horse...yet.
What about his pedigree? He is a half-brother to DUKE OF MARMALADE.
His dam LOVE ME TRUE (by KINGMAMBO) was Gr 3 placed in Ireland. She has also bred a Gr 3 placed in USA named COUNTESS LEMONADE. There appears to be a mix of US/European performances in the pedigree. The family of A.P. INDY and LEMON DROP KID.
Is it a negative that RULER OF THE WORLD was second choice from the stable?
