Here is the announcement from I.N.S. Manager John Osborne on their two new stallion acquisitions: The creation of the Irish National Stud Company Ltd in 1946 was boosted by the purchase of Royal Charger, a talented three-parts brother to Nasrullah. Stallions and the income they might make are what has sustained the Irish National Stud through good times and bad in the decades ever since. I visited a rival stallion farm some years ago where the plates of all their former stallions were on display. The impression you get is that it doesn’t often go to plan in the new career and it can be disheartening to stare at the past.

If I mention Sir Gaylord, Pall Mall, Lorenzaccio or Rainbow Quest you probably do not see dynastic male sire lines.
Yet sons of these horses were among the most significant financially to the survival of the INS. There is logic as to why. We have rarely been in a position to purchase the colt which gains the top marks in all categories, having always to compromise somewhere to achieve affordability. This has not prevented us achieving great success through the support of the breeders who recognise the positives and make it happen.

FAMOUS NAME

Famous Name has been a favourite in Ireland for six seasons and there is tremendous good will towards his relocation here. We emphasise that his first good review came in July as a two-year-old when he won impressively at Naas, a track gaining a reputation as the starting place of stallions! As has been said many times, if Vision D’Etat had not managed to hold on against the fast-finishing Famous Name, who had come from stall 17, in the French Derby, then the course of history may have been altered. It is the same horse, the same genetic package but with far more medals on his chest who presents himself for duty.

DRAGON PULSE

Dragon Pulse is here firstly because he is a stunning colt who impressed as a yearling and will produce foals of the type for which the market has an insatiable appetite. In this sector of the market it is almost all about physique as all the stallions have an incomplete CV, or else they would be dearer. This horse kept good company on the track, defeating Group 1 winners and narrowly beaten in the Goffs National Stakes.
He has more talent than many who won at the highest level and he can transmit that ability along with the good looks.
His dam was Stakes placed at two, his third dam bred a Middle Park winner and he sire line is that of three Group 1 winning sprinters. He is the highest rated two year old yet by Kyllachy. See him and see why.
