James McDonald might consider himself the future front-runner to ride a Sydney-bound colt by Coolmore's young Gr1-winning sire Power (Oasis Dream-Frappe, by Inchinor) after his sale at Karaka yesterday, reports NZ racing Desk. Bred by the champion Sydney jockey with his uncle Alan Powell and sold through Brighthill Farm's Select Sale draft, the youngster was purchased for NZ$180,000 by NZB's Richard Haynes on behalf of Damion Flower's Jadeskye Racing. He will be trained by Gerald Ryan. "We thought he would sell well and were hoping for $100,000 so it's a great result," said Powell, a Cambridge dairy farmer. "We lease the mare from Sir Peter Vela and she's got a Cape Blanco foal and she's in foal to Tavistock." The dam Belle Chantecler, a daughter of Redoute's Choice from the family of the two-time Australian Horse of the Year Might And Power, is also the mother of the Lisa Latta-trained Group performer Bella Court. Brighthill's Nick King said a family connection had led them to prepare yearlings for McDonald and Powell. "James and his brother Luke went to school with our kids Benji and Harry and they played rugby together," he said. "We sold a Cape Blanco for them last year for $75,000 and the interest in the Power colt had been huge. He had very broad appeal." he added: "James is obviously an outstanding jockey and he's a pretty good breeder as well." Reply
