With several Gransons of Danehill now beginning to enter studs I am increasingly asked to comment on the potential of inbreeding to Danehill.

I have to confess that I always held a deep mistrust of dupliations of Danzig due to the obvious soundness issues, a few years ago I would never have recommended it. But I was wrong and in some instances very wrong. The cross has worked out fine, if somewhat unpredictable.

Danehill appeared to be a very sound Danzig and he has worked well with several lines and become one of those prepotent sires that writes his own rules. I confess that as a breeder I still choose to steer clear of Danzig on soundness grounds and two of my mares carry lines of Danzig through Chiefs Crown who was another sound Danzig conduit.

Has any one any thoughts about multiple Danehill close up in pedigrees?

There are already a couple of stakes winners.
