I don't think I have ever been more disappointed by a G1 race. It was a poor field and an even poorer result no doubt linked a fair bit to the ill advised, watered ground and soft going. For gods sake this is the July festival and Good to Firm going should be guaranteed. The fact that a 4yo gelding by a soft ground stallion won followed by another 4yo gelding just about sums up the race. I am not saying that the winner didn't deserve to win on the day he was clearly the best and it was a great day for trainer and jockey. But what a disgrace of a field it just lacked class. Great run from Brando after getting behind at the start but he is not what he was and that is why the race obviously lacked class. It sort of positioned the sprint form so far in that Golden Horde was comfortably held. Perhaps they should retrospectively afford the race G3 status. Reply
