I was wondering what you owners and breeders did with your horses once they have no useful purpose in the racing/breeding business? I retired 2 fillies last year (a 2yo and a 3yo). Neither had any talent on the racecourse or would have any value in the breeding shed, so I decided to give them to a Retraining of Racehorse Charity in England (not a cheap thing to do). I made enquiries about such an organisation here in Ireland but discovered the we are not very “Charitable” over here when it comes to our racehorses. I was very disappointed when I approached the ITBA and they couldn’t offer me any advice (they are here to help breeders?).
When you are limited for space it’s impossible to keep them all but what do others do when you have a young horse that has no future in racing/breeding?
