The Australian (and NZ) stallions begin covering mares on Sat 1 September but will be doing so in smoky conditions as the Hunter Valley has many bushfires burning out of control in the area. NSW is 97% drought declared and the bushfires have started two months earlier than normal, despite there being little grass to burn. Today there are 48 fires burning in NSW, 33 are out of control/not contained, and tomorrow the strong winds are due to return which is going to make it very difficult for the firefighters. About 90 of Australia's top firefighters are in California helping with their wildfires as August is not a bushfire month normally. Reply
