I attended The Curragh today and whereas the building works and inconveniences are everywhere, the Parade Ring and pre- parade ring are finished and in full use. They are quite close but today the 2000 Guineas remained so long in the smaller pre ring that all the jockeys were already waiting in the new Parade Ring before even one runner entered ! Maybe that was a one off, maybe not. The horse walkway between the two rings has a crossing by the public. Hmm, could that be why the horses were all collected in the pre-parade ring before allowed go in all together? I just can't see that working. Another thing - what have I missed - the horses all walked in both rings ANTI-clockwise. I dont think I ever remember seeing that in Ireland before. Have I missed something? Is it a health safely thing or what? I always thought the general rule was that the leading groom was between the horse being led and the public. They always walked clockwise but not today at The Curragh. Anyone know why? Reply
