Exciting northern hemisphere bred 3YO Furrion (GB) (born in 2015 Camelot-Acquainted, by Shamardal) will head north for a tilt at the Gr1 Queensland Derby (2400m) after maintaining his perfect record at Warrnambool yesterday. Trained by Darren Weir, the UK-bred gelding extended his unbeaten record to 3 wins from as many starts when bounding to an easy 2.5 length win in the Evergreen Turf Neville Wilson Series Final over 1700 metres. Furrion became the first Australian winner for his triple Classic-winning sire Camelot when successful on debut at Stawell last month. Weir holds Furrion in high regard. "He's always been a nice horse from day one," Weir told racing.com. "He's still six months behind the three-year-olds here because he was born overseas. He's a nice staying horse, but he just needs to learn to switch off a bit more to be able to give himself the favours he'll need to get to better races. Going forward, we really like him." Weir added: "He might have to run Saturday week in Melbourne over 2000m, then there's a 2100m a couple of weeks before the Derby. It'd be nice if he got his chance in a Queensland Derby." Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Camelot was an exceptional 3YO winning four Gr1 races, namely the English Derby, Irish Derby, English 2000 Guineas and Racing Post Trophy. The son of Montjeu stands at Coolmore in Ireland at a fee of €30,000. Reply
