The Australian Turf Club (ATC) has honoured Winx by renaming the Warwick Stakes, a race she has made her own in recent years, the Winx Stakes. The champion mare has won the last two editions of the $500,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) which hitherto has been run as a Group 2 event. Fittingly, this year's renewal of the Winx Stakes coincides with the race being elevated to Group 1 Status. It will be run at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 18 August, 2018. "The ATC believes it is fitting for this race to be run as a Group One for the first time to be named in honour of Winx," said Australian Turf Club Chairman, Laurie Macri. "She has captivated the world with her career, earning recognition as Longines World's Best Racehorse and the ATC is proud to have her stabled at our great racecourse Rosehill Gardens." Winx, who currently shares the world's best racehorse ranking with recently retired US champion Gun Runner (both horses rated 129), equalled the great Black Caviar's record of 25 consecutive wins when strolling to an easy win in last weekend's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Sydney. She also claimed a world record 18th Group 1 victory and boosted her all-time record Australian earnings to $18,998,425. Reply
