All this consideration of the success/failure of inbreeding is fascinating. The input that the trainer has influence in success/failure is also fascinating! I am now wondering about the BEST DISTANCE of performers in a pedigree. Some people believe that a 6fur bred to a 10fur will produce an 8fur runner. Others would say a similar distance-cross will produce a best distance of either 6fur or 10fur (in other words will take after one of the parents). I am wondering has anyone ever considered the influence in a pedigree of the best distances in a pedigree? Is there a proven consistency to be found? We could start by looking at successful Champions etc. so see is there a distance 'nick' that worked.
