Top-class galloper Humidor is unlikely to be ready in time to defend his title in the $1.5 million Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington on 10 March. The 2017 Australian Cup winner and Cox Plate runner-up, who was last seen finishing a disappointing 19th in the Melbourne Cup, is likely to have his campaign rerouted to the Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Sydney or possibly even the Gr1 Doomben Cup in the winter. "He's a little bit behind," trainer Darren Weir's foreman Jarrod McLean told racing.com. "If he gets to the Australian Cup he gets there but at this stage races like the Queen Elizabeth and Doomben Cup in May are real good targets for him. There's no real hurry or urgency to get him to an Australian Cup." Humidor is nominated for Saturday's Gr1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, but McLean said a start is unlikely. "He's nominated for Saturday but at this stage I am told we'll give him one more trial and then head to the Futurity [Gr1] first-up," he said. Reply
