What is value in booking a nomination? Many breeders simply follow one rule - book a first season sire and there are some advantages in doing that (1) the Sale Company Reps will have an open mind and (2) trainer/agents will all be looking at first crop progeny. But, is that first season sire 'value' when in his second season he may well cover half the number he covered in his first season and at half the price! and you have a first crop foal on the ground by a sire that has cooled off. Is that value?
So, is it value if you use that sire in his second season when his fee and book numbers are lowered? That might be value if you sell as a foal but very much a punt if you sell as a yearling when you will be judged on the first crop preformances.
They are just two examples - can we discuss where YOU think the 'value' might be?
