This afternoon's meeting at Caulfield in Melbourne is the beginning of another inexorable climb towards an Australian East Coast heat wave, with the thermometer rising from 26 yesterday to 31,38 and then 40 on Friday before a plunge to 24 degrees. And with much of the Northern Hemisphere in the grip of a winter so severe that the sea is freezing over on some coastlines, Alaskan Sun is the omen tip in Race 5 over 1100m. The 4YO daughter of Hinchinbrook has always shown above average ability. Having her first start for trainer Henry Dwyer after a stable change, she is likely to jump favourite in her first outing since finishing runner-up at Caulfield on Boxing Day over 1200m. Alaskan Sun should sprint well with the three week break. Drawn four off the fence she has Dwayne Dunn in the irons; expected to stay in touch with the good marble, she is likely to finish strongly as is her racing style. Reply
