Are we being spoilt for choice? Ardad by Kodiac - rated 102. Ran 3 times at 3, best performance 5th in a Listed. Koropick by Kodiac - rated 106. Won a Grp3 at 3 on the AW at Newcastle. Peace Envoy by Power - rated 105. Won a Grp 3.
Now, none of these boys are going to attract decent mares. How can we be improving the breed? It’s not as if any of these are widening the gene-pool. Surely what we need is far fewer new stallions? At least if we are to be offered inferior racehorses then should we not be offered some more outcrosses? Are the smaller studs hoping to follow Tally Ho’s good fortune by producing another Kodiac? A quick look at the end of year Sales shows clearly that overproduction is back again. The “big-boys” are only to happy to offer us a plethora of “Mickey-Mouse” stallions. We are not helping ourselves. Self-Immolation?
