Australian racing has grown accustomed to seeing the red and yellow silks of the China Horse Club. Over the weekend, the Club was responsible for the sixth annual China Equine Cultural Festival at Yiqi Racecourse where a large 16,000 contingent of racing fans was undeterred by a downpour to take in four races that formed the jewel of proceedings, reports bloodhorse.com. The day, which included an array of cultural performances and traditional dragon dances, was also view by two million people via a live internet stream. The kernel of the festival is to showcase the giant strides being made in the development of thoroughbred racing in China. Plans are afoot to increase membership demonstrably over the next few years that will funnel into the growth of the breeding industry, irrespective of wagering. "We have been systematically, step-by-step, introducing the concept of racing and other matters," explained Teo Ah Khing, founder and chairman of the China Horse Club whose filly Abel Tasman won the Gr1 Kentucky Oaks. Among standout local horses to carry the striking red and yellow silks of the CHC are Flying Artie in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, multiple Gr1 winner Dissident, Gr1 Galaxy winner Russian Revolution, Gr1 Inglis Sires' Produce winner Invader, Gr1-winning mare First Seal (set to visit Champion Stallion Snitzel this breeding season) & Inglis 3YO Guineas winner France.
