OTI Racing Managing Director Terry Henderson has confirmed that the underperforming and sometimes frustrating Tom Melbourne has been relocated to the Sydney stable of Chris Waller, in an attempt to see the six-year-old return to winning form.

Tom Melbourne won at four of his first six starts in Australia, including last year's Albury Gold Cup, but has endured a lean spell in 11 visits to the track since, although that run did include placings in three-successive Group 3s last spring, the Coongy Cup, the Lexus Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

"He's left Lee and Anthony Freedman to head off to Chris Waller for a change of scenery," Henderson explained.

"As we know this horse has been a little disappointing, and he's not the easiest horse to train.

"He's one of those horses that although we've had for 18 months we really don't know where he sits, is he a 2000m or a 2400m horse, or really something more precocious?

"I'm sure Chris will help work that out for us, Chris has shown over time that he is exceptionally good at turning these horses around.

"He'll try something different no doubt, and often this will change the horse's attitude and changes their racing style and that's what we're certainly hoping here.

"The horse started work this week.

"[Looking ahead to the spring] we've got an eye on the Group 1 Metropolitan, whether he gets to the 2400m we don't know but that gives us plenty of time to build up to a race like that."
