There is a lot of talk these days about the number of runners big owners have in the same race. At Punchestown this week the McManus and Gigginstown runners are numerically prominent. And good for them - O'Leary and McManus must be credited with their huge support to National Hunt Racing. However, it is a topic of converstion suggested that owners should be limited to a maximum of three runners in any one race. That simply would not work. For a start - an owner wanting to run more than three in a race could simply temporarily for the day transfer the racecard ownership to a member of his family - so limiting owners with runners simply would not work.
But what about trainers? Is it possible that trainers should be limited to a maximum of THREE runners in any race? This is a serious suggestion and the more I think about it the more I like it! Any comments......
