Is it time the industry considered the introduction of AI? I start this new thread because TOTH wrote the following under the 1/Jan thread. "I used to be opposed to AI. But now think that the advantages completely out weigh the disadvantages. With genetic testing and fingerprinting all the issues surrounding identity can be put to sleep. It would just need a regulatory platform that ensures that over production from one or two narrow bloodlines is kept under control. Now if that were possible and that is a very big if, everyone's a winner. The costs would be driven down, mares would not need to be swabbed or travelled and mares with foals would be inseminated at home with little distress to the foal. We are only a short step from some major disease problem in the population the way things are and that could be calamitous for mare owner and stallion farm alike. I think AI would or could create strong competitive markets which would drive down costs for stallion use."
I think it is interesting to air our thought on this subject.
