Triple Crown winner and 2015 US Horse of the Year American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile-Littleprincessemma, by Yankee Gentleman) will shuttle to Coolmore Australia for the 2017 southern hemisphere breeding season where he will stand at a fee of $66,000, reports Thoroughbred Daily News. “We have been overwhelmed by interest from Australasian breeders in American Pharoah ever since he retired to stud in Kentucky,” said Coolmore Australia’s Tom Magnier. “It’s well recognised that he is a once-in-a-lifetime horse and the opportunity to bring him to Australia is an irresistible one.” Magnier added: “He is a faultless physical specimen and free of Danehill blood, so is a perfect complement to our own band of Fastnet Rock and Danehill mares. We will be supporting him with our own quality mares and we have already had a number of top breeders approach us with the intention of supporting him heavily.” American Pharoah, who is currently standing his second season at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky, sealed his greatness when ending a 37-year drought in 2015 by becoming the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the coveted Triple Crown. He retired after scoring a memorable win in the US$5 million Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in history to win a Breeders' Cup race. The Ahmed Zayat-owned and Bob Baffert-trained champion retired with a record of 9 wins (including eight elite victories in the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic, Gr1 Kentucky Derby, Gr1 Preakness Stakes, Gr1 Belmont Stakes, Gr1 Haskell Invitational, Gr1 Futurity & Gr1 Arkansas Derby) and 1 placing (the Gr1 Travers Stakes) from 11 starts for US$8,650,300 million prize money.
