I had a few minutes to spare on a plane yesterday and looked through a yearling catalogue. I listed the 2nd dams and noted their produce. I used second dams because they would be more advanced in their breeding career, This is far from a perfect sample however but may just answer a few questions. I looked at the first 100 lots.
Dams with more than 1 BT performer (Winner and placed) 56%
Dams with more than 1 BT winner 32%
So if you define Black Type as winners Paddy was right. More than 1 Black type performer is slightly in the majority. Out of the sample only 10% of the dams were maidens and a similar number unraced.

The flaws are obvious the catalogues are by no means complete. It only includes sales horses, some of these mares even though they are 2nd dams have had less than full breeding careers and may yet produce more blacktype. You have to say that while I was doing it my impression was how few had multiple blacktype winners but there are a few that produce nothing else. One mare in the group had produced 7 Blacktype performers from 10 winners from 11 foals of racing age.
