Six-time Group 1 winner and Japanese superstar Maurice will shuttle to Arrowfield from the 2017 southern hemisphere breeding season onwards. Owned by Mrs Kazumi Yoshida, Maurice was named the 2015 Japanese Horse of the Year, as well as Champion Sprinter & Champion Miler. He was also honoured with a Special JRA Award for his 2016 victories in the Gr1 Tokyo Tenno Sho, Gr1 Hong Kong Champions Mile, and his sensational swansong victory in the Gr1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin in December. Mrs Yoshida's husband, renowned international owner and breeder Katsumi Yoshida, has given Maurice the best possible endorsement by sending him two-time Horse of the Year and 7-time Group 1 winner Gentildonna (Deep Impact). Yoshida said: "She is the best mare I own, she will be covered by Maurice." Two-time World Champion jockey Ryan Moore said of Maurice: "He was just an outstanding looking horse. He has a fantastic mind, he always wanted to win. He put everything into his races. He was really powerful, travelled wherever you wanted him to and he had a fantastic turn of foot." Arrowfield's Chairman John Messara said: "Nobody could fail to be impressed by Maurice's extraordinary performances at the highest level. We are privileged to have the opportunity to stand the Yoshidas' charismatic superstar whose physique, 1600-metre dominance and Danehill-free status make him a wonderful addition to our roster." Maurice (Screen Hero-Mejiro Frances, by Carnegie) retired last month with a record of 11 wins from 18 starts for ¥1,063,480,620 in earnings. His six Group 1 wins came in the Hong Kong Cup, Autumn Tenno Sho, Champions Mile, Hong Kong Mile, Kyoto Mile Championship & Yasuda Kinen. Maurice will stand at Arrowfield this year at a fee of $33,000 inc GST. Reply
