Three-time Breeders' Cup winner & dual Eclipse champion mare Beholder (Henny Hughes-Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek) arrived at Spendthrift Farm near Lexington, Kentucky on Monday to commence her new life as a broodmare, reports Blood Horse. "Well, we've been waiting for a while for this, it's really exciting for the farm," said Spendthrift Farm general manager Ned Toffey. "It's a neat thing because we've closed a chapter on one part of her career and we're opening the chapter on the next." The 6YO has been booked to leading sire Uncle Mo for her first mating. "It's really exciting for us to get to see what kind of foals we're going to get out of her," Toffey added. "Obviously (the foal would) have great value at auction and also be an awful lot of fun to take to the races. If it can run and if it's a colt—we're about standing stallions here - we'd love to have a son of Beholder in the stud barn." Trained by Richard Mandella for B. Wayne Hughes' Spendthrift Farm, Beholder bowed out with a memorable swansong victory over the previously unbeaten champion filly Songbird in the $2 million Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff at Santa Anita. Beholder retires with the remarkable record of 18 wins and 6 placings from 26 starts for US$6,156,600 in earnings. She will be remembered as one of the greatest US mares of the modern era with 11 wins at Gr1 level, namely the Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff - twice, Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, Gr1 Vanity Mile Stakes, Gr1 Zenyatta Stakes, Gr1 Pacific Classic, Gr1 Clement L Hirsch Stakes, Gr1 Ogden Phipps Stakes, Gr1 Kentucky Oaks, Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks, and Gr1 Santa Ynez Stakes.
