No matter the respective results of Saturday's Gr1 Randwick Guineas in Sydney and Gr1 Australian Guineas in Melbourne, the combined outcome will leave more questions than answers as to the country's leading 3YO miler, notwithstanding that owners lose out on potentially having a crack at both events. With trainers forced to choose one or the other top-tier 3YO features, the less than desirable situation will hopefully have a resolution before next season's black-type calendar is agreed upon. NSW authorities would be rightly miffed at the stalemate, given an unwritten agreement that major Sydney features don't encroach upon Melbourne in the Spring and major Melbourne features don't encroach upon Sydney in the Autumn. The successful Grand Prix-style circuit of Australia's racing carnivals, which generally sees the best horses competing against each other around the country, could be at risk unless this situation is amicably resolved.
