A colt by Darley's multiple Gr1-winning shuttler Medaglia d'Oro became the first yearling to fetch seven figures at the opening session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when knocked down to Coolmore's M.V. Magnier for US$1 million, reports Blood Horse. Magnier said the colt reminded him of champion Australian 2YO and Golden Slipper winner Vancouver who, following an aborted northern hemisphere campaign, is set to return to Coolmore's Australian base to commence stud duties later in the year. "It's a lot of money to pay for a horse, but he's very good looking and the lads seemed to like him," Magnier said. "He was a very nice horse, he reminded us a lot of Vancouver...and he's an exceptional looking horse, so if he's anything like him we're in good shape." Consigned as Hip 48 by Taylor Made Sales Agency, the colt is out of the stakes-winning mare Spring Party (Smart Strike), a half-sister to Gr1 winner Emcee and to the dam of Gr1 winner Constitution. Magnier said the colt will most likely remain in the US. Reply
