At The Currah in Ireland, 7YO UK-bred gelding Wicklow Brave (Beat Hollow-Moraine, by Rainbow Quest) caused one of the upsets of the season when scoring by 0.5-length for trainer Willie Mullins in the Gr1 Irish St Leger (14 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 4YO Irish-bred entire Order Of St George (Galileo-Another Storm, by Gone West) & 5YO Irish-bred gelding Trip To Paris (Champs Elysees-La Grande Zoa, by Fantastic Light). This was the first Gr1 victory for Wicklow Brave who advanced his record to 9 wins and 8 placings (including the Gr1 Irish St Leger & Gr2 Lonsdale Cup) from 29 starts for £483,540 earnings. Trainer Willie Mullins, celebrating his first Classic victory on the flat, confirmed Wicklow Brave would now make the long trip to Australia for the Gr1 Melbourne Cup in November. "Hopefully it will be the Melbourne Cup next," he told At the Races. "That has been the plan all year as the pace and the ground will suit." Reply
