Cornerstone Stud marked 50 years of breeding history at it Barossa Valley property on Sunday with its annual open day and stallion parade. Around 200 guests enjoyed Yalumba wines and stone-oven cooked pizzas as they gathered to see a roster headed by Royal Ascot winner Free Eagle (High Chaparral), the highest rated racehorse retiring to stud in Australia since 2014. The champion first and second season sire by winners in Europe, Zebedee (Invincible Spirit), looks to have packed on even more muscle this year and the gleaming grey was a photographer’s joy while parading. Also on show was new addition Valentia (Fastnet Rock) and the Gr2 Skyline Stakes winner had guests gasping for breath, as you would expect when showing off a horse who was a $1.35 million yearling. Ambidexter (Commands) put on his annual antics as the Gr2 Theo Marks winner bounced, danced and pranced with an air of arrogance around the parade area. Not appearing this year due to his passing in March was Hussonet. However, the proven and consistent Good Journey (Nureyev) took over Hussonet’s trademark role of standing in a vertical pose for photographers… there was certainly a feeling that Hussonet was walking amongst us on the day.
