Did anyone watch the C4 interview with the Head of Regulation at the BHA it explains a great deal. He was asked (in the light of the Falmouth stakes) to explain their thinking. The reply was intellectually bankrupt. It appears that the over riding factor is that the best horse should win the race. So if it was the Olympic 100 m and Bolt either false started or ran out of his lane and interfered with another runner he would still keep the race because he is the best in the race. Why do they bother to run the race at all. Why don't the stewards just decide the result. Its stupid and subjective. The rules are there to be adhered to. If they are broken the transgressor should be thrown out. Once again the French system appears to be more appropriate than ours. If they throw out every horse that causes interference jockeys would very quickly make sure they didn't offend again. As it is now the inference is that if a favourite causes interference and passes the line first he will likely keep the race, but if an outsider interferes with a favourite and passes the line first he will loose the race. Its madness! Reply
