I am a little surprised that no one is interested in the recent disciplinary action taken against Godolphin trainer A Zarooni who was fined for breaching the rules on prohibited substances after 2 horses tested positive for propoxyphene. This is more than a mild pain killer it is an opiate of short half life which can stimulate euphoria and motoresponses. There can be no doubt that this drug is not commonly used in stables for any other purposes than to give a chemical stimulus. The nature of its short half life sort of indicates that it could be admnistered and hopefully not be detected. It would appear to me that there are elements in this affair that suggest that this drug has been used without detection. The characteristics of the drug would make it a drug of choice for those wishing to avaoid detection. Reply
