Goffs have announced some major changes to their Orby Sale. An enhanced format for Goffs Orby Sale will see Ireland’s premier yearling platform become a two day select sale of the very best Irish yearlings on Wednesday and Thursday, 3 and 4 October. Goffs will charter a dedicated flight for purchasers back to the UK following the sale of the last lot to ensure the participation of the best buyers from start to finish at Orby whilst international buyers can take in the sale en route to the Arc meeting at Longchamp.Orby yearlings will be catalogued alphabetically over the two days.
So Goffs are looking after their best clients - fair enough but, what about all the other yearling vendors? This is what they have to say about them The former third day will now be staged three weeks later on 25 and 26 October alongside the Horses In Training Sale, creating a larger sale of real quality and value that will hold great appeal for buyers at home and abroad and will be promoted by Goffs and ITM as a stand-alone event. This new sale will give the yearlings a strong identity of their own whilst this entry fee has been slashed to assist commercial breeders.
My first reaction to the secondary sale is that putting Yearlings with Horses-in-training is not necessarily a good move because the buyers are obviously very different. What do others think?
