Since being reminded by NZ about Grosvenor I have dug into a few books to learn a bit more about the history of the TB in Australia and New Zealand. There is one thing that stands out as a major difference between breeders in Europe (I think to a lesser degree in the US) and those in the Antipodes. Whereas imported stallions never do any real good here and breeders ignore or barely give them lip service the industry there thrives on new blood is constanlty renewing itself and welcomes imported stallions. New Zealand in particular loves its home grown talent but has been reliant on imported (or shuttled) stallions. Why are the attitudes so different and does this constant renewal have implications in promoting hybrid vigour. Reply
