I am one of those 'used to go racing' followers and these days due to cost and time etc.., I have been following Irish Racing on the excellent ATR service. However, yesterday I was invited by friends to join them at Fairyhouse for the running of the Tatterssalls Sales race value €150,000. This was a big event as the Sales at Fairyhouse start tomorrow and are held just across the road from the racecourse. I was expecting a good big crowd. Well let me tell you I am still in shock. In all the races I would say there were more people IN the Parade Ring than there were on the rails looking in! I have never seen such a small crowd at a major race day and as for the atmosphere - it was funerial!
Irish racing is finished as a day out sport. Those responsible are those in charge. They should hang their heads in shame and creep back into their lavish homes.
